Our Story

Our start

In January 1998, our current managing director Nicolaus Gedat founded nmedia GmbH. As one of thousands of start-ups, we wanted to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the Internet, which was emerging at the time, to develop new services for brands and retailers in the B2B sector.

Our goal was, and still is, to offer market participants in the dining, living and giving sectors facilitation and efficiency gains through electronic communication.


EDI Clearing Centre

We quickly realised that the link between the old economy and the new economy was and is the key to success. With the participation of EK/servicegroup eG and invenido GmbH (wmf group, Villeroy und Boch and Leonardo), we were able to successfully implement this step with minority shareholdings and initially concentrated on the electronic networking of the WWS and ERP systems of the brands and dealers (EDI Clearing Centre). With over 1,000 connected retailers and trade organisations and hundreds of brands in over 20 countries, we have become an important part of the industry. There is no business model between brands and retailers that we do not support and efficiently implement with our electronic data exchange services (e.g. automatic exchange of orders, sales data, invoices, etc.).


The order and data platform of the Home&Living industry

With the founding of “Nextrade” in 2019, nmedia GmbH, Messe Frankfurt and EK/servicegroup laid the first foundations to support the sector and industry with digital solution concepts and to pave the way for digital trade. Since then, new and business process-supporting products have been developed and successfully marketed for the entire sector. In the process, the requirements and needs of the home & living industry were consciously rethought and placed in the focus of the solution development. In an intensive exchange process with the industry, a multitude of new, successful services and products for brands and retailers were created.

Until now, only brands and retailers who can and want to handle their communication with the other party via EDI were able to participate in our EDI Clearing Centre.

The order and content platform has set itself the task of simplifying the (post-)order processes and the handling of article data for industry and trade.


Since 2022: nmedia as an umbrella brand

“Now what has belonged together for a long time is growing together”, says Nicolaus Gedat, Managing Director of nmedia GmbH.

The company and the name “nmedia” have enjoyed a high level of trust and acceptance in the home & living industry and beyond for over 20 years. For the nmedia team as well as for Messe Frankfurt and the EK/servicesgroup, it was therefore clear: the next logical step is to continue under the umbrella brand “nmedia” and to strengthen it in the future with new products and services.
